Board Meeting News

Sand Lake UMC Board meets the 1st Wednesday of each Month.

February 2012
January 2012  - meeting canceled
December 2011
     Furnace was checked and cleaned no issues found.
     Approved Dave Groner as Member-at-Large of the Board
     Noisy Offering was designated to the Care Fund with Margaret's furnace as a priority.
     Noisy Offering will be designated for the whole year in January.  A list will be posted.  If an emergency need occurs the board can reallocate the offering at that time.
     UMW received a flag and company medallion as a thank you from the Marine troop we are sponsoring.  A case will be made so the flag can be displayed properly.
     Pastor Parish recommendation on the Pastor's salary was approved. 
November 2011
     Noisy Offering for November was designated for the Jamaican School.
     Approved $120 contribution to Gifts of Hope through Hope Network.
     Approved providing Thanksgiving Dinner to Coralie's Family.
     Harvest Dinner is November 20.
     Karen reported that our old stained glass is not in Rockford store.  Cost for new would be $100 sqft plus the cost of the medallion.   
October 2011
     Approved purchase of UMC Phone Tree service for $100 per year to improve communication and pray requests
     Approved purchase of a dehumidifier and try getting the basement dry.
     Approved removal of two Apple Trees on the west side of the church and bushes in front of the fellowship hall.
     Approval of a furnace cleaning and system check up.
September 2011
     Approved giving Lisa a gift card for Meijer for $100 for her cleaning services.
     Approved hosting the Helping Hands benefit sing  on November 4.
     Designated August 18, 2012 as the date for the celebration of our 140th Anniversary.
     September Noisy Offering was designated for Beach Picnic Basket.
     Charge Conference will be October 9th at South Ensley.  Reports re due September 29th.
August 2011
     UMW announced they gave $100 to Sand Lake Firefighters Truck fund. The Noisy Offering was $77.51.
     Pastor announced there would be a table at the picnic for the AK-47 dog tags.
     Pastor housing allowance situation was referred back to Staff/Parish.
     Window Blinds were suggested for the Sanctuary to help cut the heat in summer.  Current electric would not handle an air conditioner.
     A phone line in the fellowship was requested.
     Approved a gift of $100 to Sandy McConnell for her dedication to VBS.
July 2011
     Approved July Noisy Offering go to the Emergency Services of Sand Lake. The UMW will prepare a breakfast the first Sunday in August in lieu of a spaghetti dinner.
     Approved August Noisy Offering go to the Jamaican Christian School for the Deaf
     Approved $100 contribution to the Community Picnic.
     Approved the purchase and sale of 75 sets of dog tags from the Philippines through the AK-47 project.  This project rescues and rehabilitates children who have been kidnapped and put into military service.
June 2011
     Approved the tentative schedule for a spaghetti dinner for civil servants to raise money for equipment
     UMW has adopted a Marine group for care packages
May 2011
     Approved the purchase of an ad in the POST for one year.
     Together (ES & SL) raised $853 for the Feinstein Challenge which resulted in the purchase of 2,068 pieces of food and $2,068 in matching funds.
April 2011
     Approved the purchase of a two sided sign for the fellowship hall advertising Family Night and the UMW Rummage Sales.  UMW agreed to pay 1/2 the cost.
March 2011
     Approved noisy offering donated to the Feinstein Challenge with the youth doing the shopping
February 2011
     Approved acquiring and estimate for upgrading the electric service in the church building.
     Approved enrollment in Volunteer Energy for our natural gas.
     Approved participation in an exploratory committee to determine the possibility and feasibility of having a live nativity in conjunction with other area churches.
     Approved creation of a projects fund for contributions to youth programs.
January 2011
     All approved construction has been completed and paid for.
     Kingdom Team has approved an outreach program of distributing the new translation Common English Bible.
December 2010
     Approved construction of a roof over the handicapped ramp entrance and new gates between the buildings.
     Furnaces have been cleaned and inspected with no problems found.
November 2010
     Recognized a total of 14 service projects involving 55 volunteers serving 1126 hours and $2,725 of contributions.
     Discussed replacement of fellowship hall door, roof between the buildings and a new roof over the ramp.
     Approved second evening for women's AA group.
     Approved sponsoring a "gift of hope" for one home with hope network.
October 2010 
     Approved hiring a cleaning person for twice a month cleaning    
     Approved purchase of new answering machine that can be accessed by phone to improve our response time
     Approved the purchase of road signs to direct visitors to our church
     Worked on conference paperwork

     Approved purchase of listing on the three Chamber of Commerce signs entering Sand Lake and membership in the Chamber of Commerce
     Approved support for Pastors health insurance
     Approved church food pantry with baskets recommended by members
     Approved purchase of cables to get the audio/video system up and running
     Approved use of the fellowship hall by a local group of AA women
